What are Gravatars?

Gravatar Logo

Gravatars are “Globally Recognized Avatars“, a service for taking your avatar, your identity, all over the web. Once you set up your account with an email address and avatar, you can automatically show that avatar on Gravatar enabled sites. Particularly blogs like akamike.

Gravatar enabled sites request your avatar from their servers based on the email address you enter. You can set up multiple email addresses and multiple avatars, in case you need separate business and personal identities.

How do you get one? A simple sign-up at Gravatar will get you up and running. Fill in your email, check your inbox for the verification then upload your image.

To sweeten things more: Gravatar enabled sites you have posted on before will update with your new avatar (provided you used the matching email). Retroactive, baby!
